I didn’t win, but…

I didn't win, but...

...I would still like to say my thank-you's.

I was incredibly honoured just to be nominated for the Women of Influence Nanaimo-WIN Network Awards. Thank you to Amber White for the nomination. Knowing that someone sees value in the work that I do and took the time to put my name forward means more than I can say.

Being recognized for my contributions to the arts and culture of Nanaimo is profoundly meaningful to me. This is the city where I grew up, where I began my career, where I birthed my daughter, and where I continue to create. To be able to help shape the artistic landscape of my hometown—to bring stories, designs, and creativity to life here—is a privilege I don’t take for granted.

I want to dedicate this honour to someone very special—my five-year-old daughter. She is already finding her own path in art, filling our home with drawings, paintings, and boundless imagination. As a single mother, balancing career and parenthood is no small feat, but she reminds me every day why I do what I do. I want her to grow up knowing that creativity matters, that her voice matters, and that she can build a life doing what she loves.

To every artist, dreamer, and storyteller in this community—thank you for making Nanaimo a more vibrant, inspiring place. And to Evelyn—this one is for you.

Thank you.
