Today, along with the Bridges Society for Women, I launch a project that is very close to my heart. In the wake of several high profile incidents, "Me too" spread virally as a hashtag on social media to denounce sexual assault and harassment. This movement, created by Tarana Burke of Just Be Inc., is being used to publicize experiences to demonstrate the widespread nature of misogynistic behavior. Since then, millions of people have used the hashtag to come forward with their experiences, including myself.
In my own proclamation, I felt compelled to take the hashtag one step further. After witnessing several of my own friends share their own stories, I doodled on my hand with a sharpie...
My good friend Jimmy suggested that this would make a powerful tshirt, and that was all it took. I turned this design into a shirt, and created two other designs. After putting together a strategy, I approached Bridges about partnering up to raise both funds and awareness.
The Bridges Society for Women (located in Victoria, BC) is a gutsy, innovative community agency that delivers employment training and supportive programs to women impacted by violence or abuse. They draw on our extensive knowledge of the impacts of abuse on employability to provide education, training and consulting to community agencies, employers, and government.
Bridges was excited to work together on this project and I am happy to announce that as of today, these tshirts are available for purchase and 100% of the profits are being donated directly to Bridges.
